Sancerre Blanc

A legendary Sancerre name. Does the word “cul” – “end” or “bottom” in French – refer to its location at the edge of lands once owned by Anne de Beaujeu? Perhaps. What is certain is that this slope is even steeper than Les Monts Damnés. Tending this vineyard is a work of heroic proportions and only manual labour makes an impact. The result? A powerful opulence beyond compare.

Production

On 54 ares of an east-facing hillside, Le Cul de Beaujeu parcel benefits from a dense marl soil, giving this Sauvignon Blanc its richness and typical Chavignol chewiness. The steep terrain means the vines have to fight hard to thrive. And although they produce fewer grapes than elsewhere, their flavour is incredibly concentrated. Our teams perfected this refined power over time by ageing the wine for 12 months, half in 400- and 600-litre barrels, half in amphorae.

Appearance and taste

Combining citrus nuances and accents of juicy white fruits, this white Sancerre parcel wine brings to mind the lush landscapes of the Mediterranean. Its full-bodied and concentrated palate and impeccable minerality make it the ideal companion to gourmet dishes with bold flavours, such as pan-seared foie gras.
